As I layed in bed the morning of my graduation day, I started to stress for the first time as I thought about my Valedictorian speech. I had read it out loud to myself numerous times, yet I still felt something was missing in it. I ran to the kitchen in my pink pajama's, grabbed the chordless phone and ran back to my room. I layed back in my bed, closed my eyes and dialed my boyfriends number. He answered after a few rings.
"Luken, I'm gonna freeze up at the podeum." I said. "I'm gonna make a total fool of myself."
Luken laughed. "You're going to be great up there. Your speech is amazing. You are amazing. It's going to be amazing." He told her.
"Thanks baby. All I needed to hear." I giggled. "Love you bunches." I said. I hung up the phone and hopped in the shower. As soon as I got shampoo in my hair, my brother was banging on the door telling me to hurry up. "It's my day, Mark!" I shouted.
"Okay, okay! Chill out." He replied sounding a bit annoyed.
I sighed. I rushed to finish my shower. "I'm done, Buttcrack!" I shouted as I went back to my bedroom.
I sat down in front of my vanity and blow dried my hair. When I was done, I found a sexy dress to wear under my graduation gown. I went with a strapless pink floral dress that was a bit shorter than what I normally would wear, but I wanted to look good for Luken. I spent an hour on my makeup, because I wanted it to look perfect. I painted my nails and as soon as I was done, I heard Dina honking her horn outside. I jumped up, grabbed my things and ran down the hallway. "Bye everyone! See you there! Love you!" I shouted. I ran out the door and up to Dina's 1986 Chevy Nova her Dad had rebuilt for her. It was pink, which most people thought was an odd choice, but if you knew Dina, it totally fit her personality. She turned toward me. "You've got to be shittin' me!" I said smiling.
"You like?" She asked as she turned her head, giving me a full view of her new nose ring. Dina giggled and pulled out of the driveway. "So, you ready for your speech, girl?" She asked.
I shook my head no. "So not ready." I answered.
"You'll do good." She said. "Picture Calven Stuart naked." She said giggling.
I nudged her in the arm with my elbow. "Shut up." I said laughing. "I don't like him anymore. I don't even think he's cute. He doesn't look the same anymore."
"Yeah right. You'll always have the hots for him." She said. "Are you going to Dryden's grad party?" She asked.
"Yeah. Luken's dragging me to it." I answered, not even the least bit excited.
"It'll be fun." She said.
I sighed.
"Maybe you and Luken can. . . maybe. . . seal the deal on your relationship." She said with a smirk on her face.
I blushed. "We're doing that after the party. Not at it."
She giggled. "About time."
We pulled up at Kennedy High School. We both stared at the school for a few seconds. "I can't do this." I said. The more I thought about it, the more I didn't want to do it.
"You'll be fine." She laughed.
We grabbed our things and walked into the gym to get in line where we were suppose to be.
Our graduating class was only forty Seniors. We lived in a small town in Kennedy, California with a population of 221 people. I hugged Dina and walked away to find my place in line. I was shaking as I began to go over my speech again in my head. "If anyone is naked under their gown, they won't get to walk." Principle Gibson said.
"Okay, Dotty." A guy said laughing.
I saw her walk into the line of people. "Call me Principle Gibson. You havn't graduation YET."
I tired not to laughed when several of the other students did. I had trouble trying to pay attention while some of the faculty went over rules and directions. I was too busy continously going over my speech in my head. "Okay, it's time." I heard Vice Principle Conner say.
"Shoot me now." I said out loud to the boy next to me.
He smiled as I looked over at him. "Austin." I said smiling.
"So, I guess you, me, Luken and Dina are going to a hotel after the party." Austin said smiling.
I rolled my eyes. "Nervous?" He asked.
"My speech sucks." I replied.
He laughed. "I mean about tonight." He said.
"Excuse me?" I asked confused.
"The sex." He said.
I turned around facing forward as the line began to move. I was embarassed that Austin knew about mine and Luken's plans for the night. I figured he would have told him at some point though considering how close they were. As soon as I sat down in my assigned seat in front of the big crowd of people, my legs began to shake. I didn't hear anything, until they introduced me to come up and give my speech. As the choir sang, "Don't Give Up On Me Baby", by the Indigo Girls, I walked up to the podeum. I looked out on the crowds of people at both sides of the bleechers. I took a deep breath and put held my note cards out in front of me. I smiled nervously.
"Good Afternoon." I said. It was very quiet now and all eyes were on me. My heart was beating a mile a minute and I felt a lump in start to build up in my throat. I took another deep breath and looked down at my cards. I cleared my throat and began to read the first card. "As I stand here in front of all of you, it starts to bring back many great memories. We walked into this school on that first day of our Freshman year as strangers. It was a whole new experience. The school seemed so big and you looked at all the people in every one of your classes and you pointed out the biggest dork." I giggled and heard a few people laugh in the crowd. I continued, "And you probably pointed out that really cute guy or girl in your English class. And you probably also pointed out that girl or girl you wish you were." I said. I looked around and spotted Luken. It made me feel this big spurt of energy inside and all my nervousness went away. I smiled. "Among us sits the scientist who will cure all forms of HIV. Among us sits the top surgeon in California and among us sits the most valuable player of the Los Angeles Lakers. I truly beleive that in ten years, we will look back at these past four years and note them as the best four years of our lives. I wish you all the best of luck in your future endeavers and I want to thank you for sharing your best years with me. Thank you" My eyes started to tear up as everyone cheared, clapped and then gave me a standing ovation. I walked back to my seat as the song, "Story of My Life." by Social Distortion blared through the speakers. Everyone sang along. Austin put his arm around me as the song ended. "You did so good. That speech was awesome." He told me.
I smiled and giggled. "Thanks." I said.
After they finished calling everyone up to receive their diploma, we all threw their hats in the air. I only threw mine a little less than a foot in the air so I could catch it and take my own hat home with me. I searched through the big crowd of people trying to find my family. I finally found them after about ten minutes.
"We are so proud of you!" My Dad said giving me a hug. "See, I told you all that hard work would pay off."
I gave my Mom a hug. "Your speech was great." She said.
"I think it was a bit too short." I laughed. "I realized I skipped two cards."
"Buttcrack!" Mark said smiling and holding out his arms.
I rolled my eyes and gave him a hug. We all talked for a while until it was time for me to go meet up with Luken so we could head over to the party. I changed into some jeans and a red collored shirt in his jeep on the way to the party. He put a cd in his cd player and turned up the volume. "Plus 44 again?" I wined. I picked up a cd from the floor. "I think I would rather hear this." I said holding it up.
"That's Simon and Garfunkel. We are NOT listening to that. It's my Dads." He said laughing.
"Oh, I got you something." He said. "Just a little graduation gift."
I smiled as he handed me a long thin box. I opened it. It was a beautiful pearl necklace. "Luken. It's so pretty. Thank you so much." I leaned over and gave him a kiss. I put the necklace on. I was so happy.
Luken and I had been dating since the beginning of our Junior year of High School. He was my very first love and I was his.
We got to the party and the house was packed.
"Goodness. Did they invite everyone from our freakin' school?" I asked Luken.
He laughed.
"It sure freakin' looks like it." He said making fun of the way I talk.
I pushed him playfully. He grabbed me and held me in his arms.
"I don't know if I should drink." I said.
"It's up to you, baby." He said.
I spotted Dina flirting with some guy. She saw me and ran over to me. She gave me a hug. "Awesome job on the speech, best friend." She said.
"Thanks." I smiled.
"See, everyone thinks you did great." Luken said. He gave me a kiss. "I'm gonna go find the beer." He said and ran off.
"You drinking?" Dina asked.
I smiled. "I guess I'll have one." I said.
"Okay. Let's go grab you a wine cooler to start out with." She said grabbing my hand and pulling me to the kitchen.
Dina and I both ended up drinking alot. We were having a blast though! We didn't even run into Luken and Austin again until later on in the night. "Ready to hit the hotel?" Austin asked winking at me.
"I can't beleive you told him." I said to Luken.
Luken laughed. "Austin knows every bit of information there is to know about me." He said.
"I bet you told Dina." Austin said.
Dina laughed nodding.
"Shut up." I said. "Let's go."

We all stumbled to Luken's jeep and hopped in. He turned on the radio and spead out of the driveway. We all laughed. The song, "Billie Jean," by Micheal Jackson came on and Dina and I got excited. I turned around towards the Dina in the back seat and made funny faces while I was singing.
"You guys are the shit." Dina said. "Yeah and I suppose you think Micheal Jackson is too." Luken said sarcastically as he looked back at Dina. I started laughing so hard.
"LOOK OUT!" Austin screamed.
